Chair yoga

Join for our brand new chair yoga class, suitable for everyone, even if you’ve never done yoga before or you haven’t done any sort of exercise for ages!

Kingsthorpe Baptist Church, Tuesdays 11.30am (please do book to save your space)

I love chair yoga. Here’s why!

There’s no right or wrong way to do it

Maybe you’ve been to a yoga class in the past where the teacher told you where you had to put your foot, or to make sure something lined up with something else. Chair yoga isn’t like this at all – it’s all about adapting to what works in your individual body, not about imposing rules about how things should be done.

In class, we will concentrate on tuning into what feels good in our bodies, to make movement feel as joyful as possible. There are no rights and wrongs and only what feels good to you, so you can come along to the class without any pressure to do anything in particular, or compare what your body looks like in a posture to anyone else’s. Chair yoga classes are informal, super friendly and inclusive.

It’s suitable for everybody and every body

Chair yoga is the ultimate accessible yoga class, meaning that you can adapt it to what your body needs on the day. This is great for people who have mobility issues, autoimmune conditions, fatigue, joint pain, as well as those are new or returning to exercise.

Never done yoga before? It’s for you. Have a condition or illness that has made exercising tricky in the past? It’s for you. Recovering from an injury and regaining your confidence in moving? It’s for you. Looking to build strength and balance in a supportive way? It’s for you. Every single movement we do can be adapted to your body, and you are free to dial the effort you make up and down throughout the class.

It’s stress releasing and sleep improving

Yoga is an ancient practice with lots of different things woven into it – movement, breath, quiet meditation and much more… and all of these things together help us to relax, stay calm, reduce anxiety and improve our sleep. So many of my clients say that yoga day is a good sleep day, every week.

It’s truly magical how practicing just once a week can improve so many different things, but it works!

What to expect in class

  • we’ll usually start with a short relaxation and maybe some breath exercises, to help you to relax
  • we’ll do lots of different movements seated which help with mobility in your joints and help to build strength in different areas of the body
  • an optional standing part of the practice (which can also be done seated too, I’ll give plenty of options) where we’ll use the chair for support but work on strength and balance in the lower body
  • gentle stretches to ease out our muscles will follow
  • and then finishing with a calming short relaxation at the end. You can do this seated or if you’d like to you can also lie down (and I can show you a lovely posture to help with relaxation).

Private yoga

I also offer private 1:1 sessions or group sessions, for all types of yoga. More info here.
